Dr. Sam - Sexual Health Project

For this university project, our team were tasked with prototyping a digital tool to help a target audience of our choice manage window periods for one or more infectious diseases.

Given this brief, we chose to focus on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) as through background research we were all aware of the disproportionate amount of STIs among 18-30 year olds and felt able to relate to this given our ages.

We then conducted literature reviews and preliminary interviews to better understand the needs and requirements of 18-30 year olds who engage in sexual activities. From this, it became clear that our user group believed there to be a lack of sexual health information among dating apps.

With this information we created personas, of which we created 3. These can be seen below and encapsulate the pain points and motivations of our potential users.

Before prototyping, we conducted a behavioural analysis using the Theory of Planned Behaviour. We did this to increase our users' willingness to learn about STIs as well as manager window periods, resulting in them taking action.

Our initial prototype can be seen below. To ensure good design principles, we carried out user testing in the form of think-aloud's and interviews.

Afterward we refine our design to enable it to be support our users needs.

For all of our efforts, our team were voted winners by a panel of sexual health experts.

We intend to propose this idea to dating apps in future.
